A Month Without Makeup | Conclusion

At the end of this experiment, I went more than a month without makeup. I started this feeling like my skin looked tired and that my eyes were baggy, and 35 days later my skin is much clearer and brighter. Detoxifying my skin of all those chemicals I was just pounding on my face every single day was so refreshing!

I went over one month because I just got used to going without it. Putting it on just seemed silly at this point. I have early mornings during the week, so getting an extra 20 minutes of sleep this last month has helped me look less tired. After two weeks, people’s reactions stopped and my friends were all used to seeing me bare faced.

It’s a really nice feeling to go without makeup for a while. At first I really wanted to put it on. I was used to doing a daily routine of eyebrows, eye shadow, mascara, foundation, powder, blush, lipstick, the whole nine yards.  I went from all of that to absolutely nothing. I will admit, at first I kept my on doing eyebrows, thinking that they were a necessity and didn’t really count as makeup. I justified it. But after week three, I didn’t even bother. And also, I did cheat on this experiment with red lipstick for a screening of our film, Fighter. (But, hey, it was a big night.)

Today is the first day that I’ve put on a full face of makeup since I started this. It feels weird, really weird. At first it wasn’t so bad, starting with eyes then moving to some foundation. But my final touch of some bright pink lipstick just makes me feel like a clown. Not wearing makeup for over a month has really made me averse to it.

Overall, I’m really happy about doing this experiment. I found that I really don’t need makeup, or even want it for every day use. For now, it’s a special occasion or date night thing, and I’m so happy to be free from feeling like I need it every single day of the week. No one does. I challenge you all to challenge yourselves and break free from makeup for a while. Even if it’s just one day. Let your natural beauty shine, because everyone has that underneath all the layers. Try it!
